AUSTRALIA 2013: BYRON BAY

After an overnight stop in Nambucca Heads we travelled on up to Byron Bay where we stayed at The Byron, which was hands down the nicest hotel/resort I’ve ever been too. Despite July being the depths of the Australian winter it was plenty warm enough to make use of the most aesthetically pleasing pool I’ve ever had the pleasure of swimming in, and the poolside service that came with it.
The town itself was equipped with an endless number of aptly decorated cafés, which became restaurants at night, housing hipsters tapping away at their MacBooks and surfers taking a break from the waves. I know I said the food in Sydney was brilliant, but here it really was phenomenal. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, wherever we ate at whatever time of day, it was fabulous. (Having been in Australia for a month now, I can conclude that the food is fab everywhere; I won’t bang on about it anymore) The shops were pretty good too, there seemed to be just the right mix of hippy shops selling incense and hemp, and the more commercial clothing stores. I picked up a kimono and some white chunky heel sandals that will no doubt be making an appearance in an outfit post soon.
From the massages at the swanky hotel to the acoustic (and in no way cheesy) singer playing during dinner, everything about the town had a completely relaxed vibe. Although legend has it the place gets a little crazy after hours.
